The inspiration for my paintings is the spectacular West Coast landscape. This constantly changing environment piques my interest and desire to capture the essence of this region. I love the way sunlight peeks through the clouds and spotlights an area of interest.
To paint 'plain air' and getting out amongst nature is sheer pleasure for me, although the use of on-site sketches and my own photos is what I tend to use mostly, followed by a studio painting. I paint on handmade Italian or French Watercolour paper and use artist quality Windsor and Newton paints. I prefer to stretch the paper to avoid cockling, as I use a lot of water to apply numerous washes.
I am a member of Watercolour New Zealand and like to contribute to and take part in tutored workshops and workshops and exhibitions.
I have been a member of the Hokitika Craft Gallery since 2007. I enjoy the camaraderie and working for the common good of all the craftspeople.
My work has been featured in the Australian Artist Magazine and has sold internationally.
